Earthquake in Turkey:

Rescue-dog teams of the “International Rescue Dog Organisation” are deployed – 6 persons rescued so far

30 Turkish Rescue-dog teams from the member organisation “AKUT” of the "International Rescue Dog Organisation” are already in the area of the earthquake in the east of Turkey. 6 persons were already found alive form underneath the rubble in the badly damaged city of Ercis.

15 persons from "AKUT"-Ankara landed in Van with a military airplane on Sunday, 23.10.2011 at 6pm MESZ. 15 further persons of "AKUT" are on their way into the affected area overland with emergency vehicles.

Standby are the following teams from the “International Rescue Dog Organisation” (IRO): UK ISAR, Rapid UK, @fire Germany. By current information of the Turkish crisis management team they probably won’t be requested, though.

Dr. Wolfgang Zörner, President of the IRO: „Fast help is prior. That is why our Turkish member organisation has been sent into the affected area. Now, helpers are trying to make an overview on the spot, international help then to be co-ordinated. If there is need for further rescue-dog teams, they can be flown into Van within hours.”
